Lacerta

Abbreviation: Lac
Genitive: Lacertae
Right Ascension: 22.46 hours
Declination: 44.82 degrees
Lacerta, the lizard, extends from the head of Cepheus to the foot of Perseus.

The constellation was created by Hevelius in the 17th century. The constellation was created to enclose the stars of a very small area, and no other constellation would fit. Royer had placed Sceptre, the hand of justice, within this area in commemoration of his King Louis XIV, which Bode changed to Fredrick the great, Lacerta reclaimed the space when Sceptre was forgotten.
